NCLEX-RN Review

  • As an employee of Mayo Clinic, a four-day, live NCLEX-RN review is provided at no cost to the new graduate nurse. In addition, you will also be paid your salary while attending this review.
  • NES provides support throughout this entire process of preparing for testing and completion of licensure.

Program Design

In addition to the NCLEX-RN review program, there will be a series of classes offered to assist the new nursing graduate to review Mayo specific patient population, equipment, and practices. Some of the topics to be covered: physical assessment techniques, skin and wound care, palliative care, obtaining/ transcribing provider orders, nursing report, and other valuable areas of content that will assist you in your orientation process.

Teaching methodology includes:
  • Hands-on skills stations
  • Unfolding case studies
  • Lecture/presentations
  • Group discussion

Several of the educational days incorporate support group/learning community meetings that allow the new graduates to discuss situations, concerns, and/or questions to further enhance their professional development. These meeting times have been identified as a valued experience.

Dress Attire

At Mayo Clinic, the reputation and image of professionalism is set at high standards.

  • As nurses in the in-patient care areas:
    • Scrub apparel: all white uniforms (without decals)
    • Medical shoes: all white medical shoes or athletic shoes (socks and hosiery are required)
  • As nurses in the emergency department:
    • Scrub apparel: all navy blue uniforms (without decals)
    • Medical shoes: all white or black medical shoes or athletic shoes (socks and hosiery are required)
  • As nurses attending meetings, classes or educational offerings:
    • Business Attire: slacks (neatly pressed), skirts or dresses (professional length), tops (appropriately fitting)
      • (Blue jeans, shorts, T-shirts, and sleeveless clothing are prohibited)
    • Shoes: professional in appearance, open toed with closed back or closed toe with open backs are acceptable.
      • (Slippers, sandals, flip-flops, hiking boots, huaraches, or similar shoes are prohibited

Salary/Benefits

The pay scale/rate for New Graduate Nurses is competitive in the Phoenix Metropolitan area.

  • Starting salary as a NTII (pre-licensure exam): $20.56/hr
  • Starting salary as a NG RN: $25.80/hr
    • After six months an additional increase
    • After one full year the NG RN an additional increase
  • BSN Credit: $0.60/hr

Relocation Benefits

As a valued nursing member Mayo offers a generous relocation benefit package.

Based on a scale, you may choose:

      Nurse Technician II

  • Mayo carrier: Mayo will pay for up to 12,000 pounds and $600.00 lump sum
  • Mayo will pay $1,000.00 for you to arrange your own move.

      New Graduate RN

  • Mayo carrier: Mayo will pay for up to 12,000 pounds and $600.00 lump sum
  • Mayo will pay $2,000.00 for you to arrange your own move.

Orientation Timeline

The length of orientation is determined on an individual basis considering input from the preceptor, the unit educator, the new nursing graduate, and the nurse manager of each unit. The average length of orientation with a preceptor in the specialty areas is:

  • ICU – 6 months
  • Intermediate Care – 4 months
  • Emergency Department – 6 months
  • Medical/Surgical – Approximately 2 months (varies per unit)
