Students Recognize Mayo Clinic
as an Ideal Employer

Ideal Employer logo

U.S. college students have named Mayo Clinic as an "Ideal Employer" for the fourth straight year according to Universum Communications' 2008 survey of more than 43,000 undergraduates. Universum annually surveys thousands of students at universities throughout the United States and 26 other countries to measure perceptions and opinions of the working world.

Recognition in Universum's surveys is not purchased nor is it by application; rather, student respondents identify which organizations they deem to be "ideal." In the 2008 survey, Mayo Clinic ranked #20 among more than 200 companies. Additionally, science and nursing students ranked Mayo as the top employer overall.

Other notable findings included the following:

  • Mayo Clinic ranked 27th in Universum's survey of diverse undergraduate students
  • Undergraduates associate a number of positive characteristics with Mayo Clinic, but highest among them are reputation, prestige, and high ethical standards
  • "To be dedicated to a cause or to feel that I am serving a greater good" is the highest ranking career goal of those students calling Mayo "Ideal"

Survey data is gathered in three categories (undergraduate, diversity, MBA) to generate rankings and metrics that are used to help companies attract, recruit and retain top talent. The information has become the industry standard for benchmarking the opinions of industry leaders of tomorrow and is recognized in "The Wall Street Journal", "Fortune", "The Black Collegian" and other leading business and collegiate media.
