Medical Nursing Specialties

Community Medicine/General Medical - JO3G
This 29-32-bed medical unit provides acute nursing care for adult patients from within the community. In addition, nursing staff provide care for a variety of overflow medical patients, inpatient hospice program patients, and some minor surgical patients. Primary nursing is the care delivery system.

Schedule options:

  • 8/12 combination; work 8-hour shifts weekdays, with 12-hour shifts every third weekend
  • 8-hour shifts, with every other weekend
  • Straight 12-hour shifts working every third weekend

Dermatology - EI72
This 11-bed, linear design unit serves inpatients with dermatological disease and patients receiving internal radiation therapy (brachytherapy). The unit also provides for the respiratory isolation needs of patients with communicable respiratory disease in negative-pressure monitored rooms.

Schedule options:

  • 8-hour rotating, every other weekend
  • 8/12 combination; work 8-hour shifts weekdays, with 12-hour shifts every third weekend
  • 12-hour shifts every third weekend
  • 8-week alternating position between Dermatology Outpatient Surgery and inpatient nursing unit

Hospital Internal Medicine - DO5D
This 23-bed unit is the primary unit for medical patients who present with a wide range of medical acute and chronic illnesses. Shared decision making is evident by staff participation in visioning and planning unit programs within a collaborative framework where patient safety and teamwork is supported wholeheartedly. The floor is home base for Hospital Internal Medicine, comprised of consultants, nurse practitioners and physician assistants. This collaborative team prides itself on working well together with open communication focused on the best outcomes for the patient.

Schedule options:

  • 8/12 combination; work 8-hour shifts weekdays, with 12-hour shifts every third weekend
  • 8-hour shifts, with every other weekend
  • Straight 12 hr shifts; every third weekend
    Patient Care assistants work D/E 8's every other weekend or 8/12 D/E (11-2330 on weekend every third weekend)

Gastrointestinal/General Medical - DO6D
This 25-bed gastrointestinal/medical unit provides care to persons with GI and general medical disorders. Patients on this unit may require diverse diagnostic tests and procedures. Gastrointestinal disorders patients may have include GI bleeding, liver failure, hepatobiliary dysfunction, cancer, and inflammatory bowel disease. Additionally, nurses on this unit are specially educated to teach and care for patients receiving home parenteral nutrition. An emphasis on discharge planning and patient education is required to meet the special needs of those patients with chronic illnesses. A holistic nursing approach is used to meet the needs of this diverse patient population.

  • 8/12 combination; work 8-hour shifts weekdays, with 12-hourshifts every third weekend
  • 8-hour shifts, with every other weekend

Nephrology/General Medical - DO3D
This 37-bed medical unit serves patients with nephrology and general medicine needs. Nephrology includes dialysis patients as well as those with other renal problems. General medicine patients present with a variety of acute or chronic health problems and are from other counties.

Schedule options:

  • 8/12 combination; work 8-hour shifts weekdays, with 12-hour shifts every third weekend
  • 8-hour shifts, with every other weekend
  • 12-hour shifts, with every third weekend

Thoracic/General Medical - DO6B
This 27-bed general care medical unit serves patients with the following diagnoses: chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, pneumonia, non-monitored cardiac conditions, cancer, GI disorders, and other medical conditions.

Schedule options:

  • 8/12 combination; work 8-hour shifts weekdays, with 12-hour shifts every third weekend
  • 8-hour shifts, with every other weekend

Vascular/General Medical - JO3B
This 30-bed medical unit provides care for patients with acute or chronic health problems, often with multiple comorbidities. Vascular medical patients may present with lymphedema, wound management, or chronic vascular disease. The staff consists of RNs, patient care assistants, and unit secretaries.

Schedule options:

  • 8/12 combination; work 8-hour shifts weekdays, with 12-hour shifts every third weekend
  • 8-hour shifts, with every other weekend
  • Straight 12-hour shifts working every third weekend
