Mayo Clinic has a summer RN Exchange program in Arizona in conjunction with Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn. The goal of the program is to promote a cooperative and collegial relationship between the Rochester and Arizona hospital staffs.
This exchange is open to staff RNs who are willing to assist with staffing needs in Rochester during their peak census times. Opportunities are available on a variety of med/surg units and critical care. Accommodations in Rochester are provided, as well as travel expense and assistance with Minnesota licensure. Successful applicants will maintain their current salary and benefits through the Arizona site, and upon completion of the exchange will return to their current unit and schedule. Orientation is provided in Rochester upon arrival.
The perioperative nurse training program provides the knowledge and skills necessary for a nursing career in the operating room. The 15-week program includes the didactic materials and clinical experiences required to prepare students to become competent, entry-level perioperative registered nurses. The new graduate RN track facilitates the transition of new graduate RNs into the operating room. The curriculum is Perioperative Nursing 101 from the Association of peri-Operative Registered Nurses (AORN). Upon completion of the program, you will receive a certificate from the Mayo School of Health Sciences – Mayo Clinic College of Medicine. Following successful completion of the course and a passing score on the comprehensive final exam, students will also be awarded 81.5 contact hours from AORN.

This program is available to certified surgical technologists who have recently completed an Associate Degree in Nursing or a BSN, and are ready to begin a career as a perioperative registered nurse. Mayo Clinic Hospital in Phoenix, Arizona has a 10-week transition program offered twice a year, in January and June, that prepares nurse participants to begin practice as a perioperative registered nurse.
Applicants must have completed their NCLEX exam or have registered to take their NCLEX exam immediately following the NCLEX review course (offered during the first week of the program) and be eligible for RN licensure in the State of Arizona and employment with Mayo Clinic. Failure to pass the NCLEX will require withdrawal from the program.
