Linen & Central Services

Work Areas in Linen and Central Services

Linen Distribution

Linen Distribution supplies reusable nursing linen items to hospital nursing units and other patient care areas. We provide everything from patient bed linens and patient robes to scrub suits and lab coats for hospital staff.

The department works in close conjunction with a large off-site laundry to ensure supply needs are met. Once the products are on site, they are stocked and distributed to virtually every patient care area in hospitals by the Linen Distribution team. The team consists of linen technicians and linen transporters. The technicians count and stock linen carts and record computer data related to daily usage. The transporters deliver linen carts and stock some bulk linen items in the patient care areas. They also prepare the soiled linen items for transportation to an off-site laundry.

Case Cart Staging

Case Cart Staging supports the Department of Surgery at Saint Marys Hospital by providing sterile/non-sterile surgical supplies, linen and patient care equipment. Case Cart Staging staff make a supreme effort to ensure the prompt delivery and uncompromised sterility of all items sent to the operating room.

Sterile Processing (Sterilization)

Sterile Processing prepares and reprocesses reusable patient care items (e.g., equipment, instruments, utensils, etc.). Reprocessing may require reassemble, testing and/or sterilization. The sterilization process requires stringent monitoring, documentation and quality control. Ethylene oxide, steam and Sterrad sterilization processes are available.

Decontamination

Decontamination collects soiled utensils, equipment and instruments; and disassembles, cleans and disinfects reusable patient care items.
