Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory

Educational Opportunities

Cath Lab

The Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory has many opportunities for allied health staff to acquire contact hours and/or CMEs. These opportunities include various in-services presented by physicians, pharmaceutical/medical company representatives and/or specialists, as well as local and national conferences.

Orientation — Technical (RCIS/CVIS) and nursing orientation is completed after the new employee goes though an average of three months of on-the-job training with various preceptors. The orientation is around 12 weeks long due to the various equipment, roles and specialties that the new employee must be comfortable with prior to working independently. Orientation time can vary for allied health staff depending on the individual's needs and wants.

Growth Opportunities-- Everyone in the Cath Lab has the opportunity to become a preceptor for new employees. New research trials and products are frequently introduced to the Cath Lab. All allied health staff are encouraged to take on new intra-departmental projects, if they wish.
