Intraoperative Radiation Therapy (IORT)

Treatment in Arizona

The Mobetron is one of just a few mobile intraoperative electron radiation therapy (IOERT) machines in the world. The Mobetron can be brought into the operating room during surgery. Mayo Clinic Hospital is the only medical center in the southwestern United States offering this treatment option.

Mayo Clinic Hospital uses IORT to treat breast, head and neck, kidney, digestive and gynecologic cancers and sarcomas (soft tissue cancers).

Treatment team

IORT may involve specialists in the Departments of Radiation Oncology, Colon and Rectal Surgery, Orthopedic Surgery, General Surgery, Gynecologic Surgery, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Vascular Surgery, Anesthesiology and Hematology/Oncology.

For appointments or more information, call the Central Appointment Office at 800-446-2279 (toll-free) 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mountain time, Monday through Friday or complete an online appointment request form.
