Internal Medicine in Minnesota

Overview

Internal Medicine (referred to as the Department of Medicine at Mayo) is the largest clinical department at Mayo Clinic in Rochester. It comprises more than 590 full-time physicians, 350 residents and fellows and approximately 1,700 allied health personnel distributed over 12 divisions.

Each day, physicians in the department care for more than 800 patients on an outpatient basis, admit 55 patients to our hospital services and perform around 600 procedures. The department's vision is "to be the best in the art and science of medicine."

Many Internal Medicine physicians have been elected to prestigious societies such as the American Society of Clinical Investigation and the Association of American Physicians; serve as leaders of subspecialty and specialty organizations; are editors of prestigious journals; and conduct important research. Six divisions in the department have consistently ranked among the top three in the U.S. News & World Report National Top 10 Specialty Rankings of medical centers.
