The Summer Lab Science Program at Mayo Clinic offers individuals majoring in chemistry, human biological sciences, clinical laboratory science, or medical technology, and whom have completed their junior year in college, the opportunity to explore career options and gain experience in the clinical laboratory environment. As an intern, you will work next to laboratory scientists and professionals on the Mayo Clinic campus.
Internship responsibilities include: aliquotting, specimen extraction and preparation, centrifugation, test/assay/instrument validation, and instrument preparation/loading. Interns are not responsible for performing clinical testing.

The role of all laboratories within the department is to support the practice of medicine through the high-quality and timely testing of patient specimens. The testing varies from time-honored manual techniques to operation of state-of-the-art instruments. Patient specimens can be any type, from urine and blood to bone marrow and other tissues.
