The center, named for S. Daniel Abraham, founder of Slim·Fast Foods and a leading advocate for the principles of healthy living, opened its doors to the new facility on the Rochester, Minn., downtown campus in 2007.
A patient, friend and benefactor of Mayo Clinic, Mr. Abraham says he received much more than improved health while a patient at the clinic. When doctors here diagnosed his illness and helped him return to good health, he was so grateful that he wanted to do something in return for those who had cared for him.
Mr. Abraham provided funding in early 1994 for the development of an employee health and wellness center with two locations — one downtown and one at Saint Marys Hospital. In 1997, another gift from Mr. Abraham funded renovation and expansion of the center. In addition to Mr. Abraham's generous donations, Mayo Clinic has committed significant resources to provide superior health and wellness opportunities for Mayo employees, spouses and same-gender domestic partners and retirees.
Mayo Clinic and Mr. Abraham believe that those who use the Healthy Living Center will achieve improved fitness and health, enhancing the quality of care provided to patients.
Mayo Clinic is honored to name the Healthy Living Center in recognition of Mr. Abraham's generosity.
