The Department of Gynecology assisted in the process of Food and Drug Administration approval for the daVinci robotic system, which has been used since 2004. Since then, more than 300 robotic hysterectomies have been performed. The only robotics surgery fellowship in the United States is offered at Mayo Clinic in Arizona. In 2008, the first annual Mayo Clinic World Robotics Symposium in Gynecology was held in Arizona. The participants included physicians from around the world who are studying robotics surgery.
