Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy

Symptoms

Although many patients may never have symptoms, others may develop problems at any time. Symptoms may gradually appear during the teenage years or young adulthood, or may occur in middle age or later.

The most common symptoms are:

  • Dyspnea — Shortness of breath, especially after eating
  • Angina — Chest pain that occurs during periods of mental or physical tension or exertion
  • Syncope — Dizziness or fainting after exertion
  • Palpitations — Strong or irregular heartbeat
