Hospital Internal Medicine (HIM) features several services specific to its practice that may be called upon as patient needs dictate:

Hospitalist-Orthopedic Team

The Hospitalist-Orthopedic Team offers streamlined surgical and medical care for patients undergoing orthopedic surgery, to assure continuity of medical care throughout a patient's surgical stay. This collaboration creates a tightly integrated, multidisciplinary partnership in perioperative care.

A patient's care is coordinated by the same inpatient internist, beginning with an initial preoperative evaluation and continuing though immediate postoperative evaluation, daily visits during hospitalization as medically indicated, and any needed postoperative outpatient medical follow-up.

Medical Consultative Service for all of Rochester Methodist Hospital (RMH)

All preoperative evaluations and postoperative consultations at RMH are completed by HIM physicians to enhance the level of service provided to the requesting surgical teams and to ensure continuity of care throughout the patient's experience.

Charter House Short-Term Stay Program

Charter House is a continuing care retirement community affiliated with Mayo Clinic in Rochester and home to more than 400 residents. The HIM team provides transitional skilled nursing care at Charter House for select hospitalized patients who no longer require acute inpatient care, for up to six weeks. The Short-Term Stay Program is often appropriate for postoperative orthopedic patients, or for frail or medically ill patients, or for hemodialysis patients awaiting access to hemodialysis in their local community.

Hospital Internal Medicine-Saint Marys Hospital

This service aims to provide the best overall care to geriatric, orthopedic, and medical inpatients by using an organized, multidisciplinary teamwork approach that is guided by evidenced-based practice, outcome measurements and patient-oriented research.

The service is targeted at specific patient segments who can benefit from it most, such as complex surgical patients (e.g., hip fracture patients), nonsurgical orthopedic patients, complex medical patients (e.g., nephrology patients), and patients awaiting nursing home placement. The partnership with surgical teams to enhance geriatric perioperative care also includes urology patients.
