"A Leap of Faith" imagines the conversation in 1883 between Mother Alfred Moes and William Worrall Mayo, M.D., that led to the founding of Saint Marys Hospital. The play captures the personalities of these remarkable people and the spirit of teamwork that remains a hallmark of Mayo Clinic.
The play is funded with a generous gift from benefactors Gerald and Henrietta Rauenhorst. The play was written by Tom Williams and produced by Mark Flaherty, the team who created the 2006 Heritage Days play about Henry Plummer, M.D., and the award-winning films "A Passion for the River: Mayo and the Mississippi" and "My Brother and I: The Founding of Mayo Clinic."
Megan Cole, who wrote and starred in the 2007 Heritage Days play about Maud Mellish Wilson, will portray Mother Alfred. Clyde Lund, a well-known Twin Cities actor, will play Dr. Mayo. The director, Peter Moore, has staged world premieres of plays in theaters around the country.
Engaging and insightful, "A Leap of Faith" will introduce you to two pioneers who helped shape Mayo Clinic. The play will be performed on all three campuses as part of Heritage Days 2009.
