Mayo Clinic Heritage Days is a time to commemorate and celebrate Mayo's history and heritage, commend staff for their work throughout the year, recognize the vital role volunteers and retirees play at Mayo, and thank our communities for the support they give to patients and staff.
The concept of teamwork has been a cornerstone of Mayo Clinic from its earliest days. Throughout Heritage Days 2008, we will celebrate the inspiration of teamwork, which began with devoted brothers, Dr. Will Mayo and Dr. Charlie Mayo, and continues today.
As former Mayo administrator Harry Harwick, who worked alongside the Mayo brothers for many years, wrote: "The first and perhaps greatest lesson I learned from the Mayos was that of teamwork. For 'my brother and I' was no mere convenient term of reference, but rather the expression of a basic, indivisible philosophy of life."
As Mayo Clinic has grown, teamwork has taken on added significance. Physicians, researchers, allied health professionals, support staff, students and volunteers work together in partnership to serve the needs of every patient, every day.
