Hematology/Oncology in Arizona

Overview

The Division of Hematology/Oncology diagnoses, evaluates and treats patients with malignant diseases (cancers) and hematologic disorders (disorders of the blood and blood-forming organs), including any type of:

• Bleeding disorder (including low platelet levels, or easy bruising or bleeding)
• Blood-related disorder
• Blood and marrow disorder (including leukemia)
• Cancer or malignant disease (rare and common)
• Myeloproliferative disorder (excessive production of blood cells and platelets)
• Myelodysplastic syndrome (ineffective generation of blood cells)

Our physicians and staff work closely with surgeons, radiation oncologists, and other specialists to:

• Help patients understand their diagnosis
• Develop individual treatment plans (ranging from supportive care to intensive chemotherapy and aggressive treatments)
• Coordinate all aspects of treatment
• Provide effective surgical, chemotherapy, and immunotherapy treatment

The Division of Hematology/Oncology also supports several specialty treatment programs including:

Breast Clinic

The Breast Clinic evaluates patients whose breast examinations or mammograms have indicated abnormal findings, and provides treatment for patients who have recently been diagnosed with breast cancer.

Blood and Marrow Transplant Program

The Blood and Marrow Transplant Program is known for its safe and effective approach to transplantation. The program helps patients with certain solid tumors and many hematologic disorders, including:

• Chronic myelogenous leukemia
• Acute leukemia
• Hodgkin disease
• Malignant lymphoma
• Amyloidosis

Myeloma and Macroglobulinemia Treatment Group

Chemotherapy and Infusion Centers

The treatments provided through the division's outpatient chemotherapy and infusion centers help prolong the survival of cancer patients, allowing many patients to maintain good quality of life. Many different therapy programs are available and are often successful in inducing remissions.
