Heart Transplant

Research

Mayo Clinic researchers are studying potential immunosuppressive medications for people who have had heart transplants. Drugs currently in use can interfere with kidney function and increase the risk of coronary artery disease.

Replacement organ research

There is an urgent shortage of donor organs among a growing number of patients waiting for a transplant. Research efforts include innovative approaches, such as xenotransplantation, to help address the ongoing organ donor shortage. For more information about research related to heart transplantation at Mayo Clinic, visit the research website.
