Treatment in Florida

The Heart Failure and Transplantation Program at Mayo Clinic in Florida provides adult heart transplantation and heart failure management, including artificial heart or ventricular-assist devices. Heart transplant involves specialists from the Heart Failure and Transplantation Program in the Department of Transplantation and Cardiothoracic Surgery. Transplant nurses, social workers, physical therapists, occupational therapists, cardiac rehabilitation specialists, dietitians and pharmacists also care for people who have heart failure and for transplant recipients.

The team works closely with your home doctors to coordinate the evaluation, treatment and postoperative care.

Referring physicians

The professional staff offers quick access and immediate responses to heart transplant queries from referring physicians.

Emergency referral

To ensure that referral of a patient with severe heart failure is handled swiftly, please call 904-956-3309 to speak directly to a cardiologist at any time.

A cardiologist and surgeon are available around the clock to answer questions from referring physicians or arrange for a patient transfer. Patient pickup via helicopter or air ambulance can be arranged. A team equipped to provide the latest life-sustaining medical care assists with transportation.

Housing

Following your transplant, you may need to stay close to the hospital for a time. Mayo Clinic has a limited number of long-term housing units nearby. These fully furnished one-bedroom hotel suites with kitchenette and living area have two double beds and a pullout sofa. The hotel complex has a laundry facility and an outdoor pool. The housing units include a free shuttle service to Mayo Clinic, grocery stores, pharmacies and shopping centers.
