Heart Catheterization

Treatment in Minnesota

Mayo Clinic in Rochester has led new developments in heart catheterization for over 50 years. Mayo Clinic was among the first centers in the world to develop and refine diagnostic techniques for cardiac catheterization. That tradition of innovation and leadership continues.

Experts in every area of heart catheterization work collaboratively in the catheterization laboratory. Many conduct research on new technology and techniques to continuously enhance the quality of patient care at Mayo.

The Mayo Clinic Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory works closely with the Interventional Cardiology Clinic, which provides rapid access for patients needing heart catheterization. In 2005, over 7,000 patients were assessed and over 1,700 interventions were performed.

Heart catheterizations are performed by specialists within the Division of Cardiovascular Diseases. Patients may be referred to the Interventional Cardiology Clinic by their physician. Generally, next-day access is available.
