It's never too late to get healthy. If you quit smoking, for example, your blood pressure begins to improve immediately. Within 24 hours, your risk of a heart attack decreases. Within one year, your risk of heart disease is half that of a smoker. And if you're overweight, losing a modest 5 to 10 percent of your body weight can lower your blood pressure and cholesterol levels.
