If you exercise or engage in any activity that makes you sweat, be sure to drink extra water to compensate for the fluid loss. How much? For short bouts of exercise, an extra 12 to 20 ounces (about 350 to 600 milliliters) of water should suffice. During long bouts of intense exercise, consider switching to a sports drink that contains sodium. Remember to continue to replace fluids after you're finished exercising.
