Health Care Reform Symposia

Sanjay Gupta

Sanjay Gupta, CNN, Leads a discussion at the first national symposium

The Mayo Clinic National Health Care Reform symposia bring together policy experts and health care opinion leaders for discussions with a twofold vision:

  • Raise awareness for the need for patient-focused health care reform that will ensure the availability of quality health care to all patients.
  • Focus participants on the need for timely health care reform as a social responsibility to ensure that health care is possible for current and future generations.

The sessions will be participatory and nonpartisan. They will require thinking beyond party politics and rhetoric and engaging in substantive dialogue to create viable, actionable solutions.

The ultimate goal of the symposia is to create patient-focused recommendations for health care reform that all constituents and opinion leaders can support.

Patient-Centered Focus

The primary value of Mayo Clinic is "the needs of the patient come first." Mayo Clinic believes that is important to bring this patient-focused voice to discussions of reform of all elements of health care: public policy, provider accountability and patient responsibility.

How These Symposia Are Different

  • They will not be just about listening; participants will engage in robust discussions to develop recommendations for change.
  • Various sides of reform issues will be represented.
  • The people who can actually impact change will be at the table.
  • Attendees will not leave wondering, "What's next?" The end result will be actionable recommendations for change.
