Mayo Accelerated Viral Referral Clinic

In response to new treatment options for hepatitis C, which offer greater possibilities of cure, Mayo Clinic in Arizona has created an Accelerated Viral Referral Clinic as a resource to help community doctors manage their patients who have hepatitis C. It is for people diagnosed with hepatitis C who haven't responded to traditional treatments.

Mayo Clinic specialists are experienced in managing the drug treatments for hepatitis C. Mayo also has the capability to determine the genetic type (genotype) of hepatitis virus, to determine which treatment would be most effective.

You can decide what degree of involvement you'd like to have:

  • Limited examination — an initial consultation followed by a letter with treatment recommendations
  • Full examination — an initial consultation and follow-up treatment for hepatitis C at Mayo Clinic

Patients are eligible for clinical trials from either exam track.

For referring physicians, the Accelerated Viral Referral Clinic offers:

  • A dedicated phone line to Mayo Clinic staff
  • Access to the Mayo Clinic network of physicians
  • Timely follow-up consultation
  • Limited or full access for patients

How does it work?

  1. You refer a patient to the program (fax, phone or online). Information needed is recent H&P, labs, medication sheet and liver biopsy report.
  2. You decide the level of involvement you want.
  3. A plan of care will be determined at the time of the patient's appointment.
  4. Mayo Clinic staff will consult weekly about your patient's treatment.
