Referring a Patient

Outpatients — Gastroenterology Appointment Office
507-284-2141, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Central time, Monday to Friday. Direct line to the appointment secretaries within the Gastroenterology Division.

Patients may be referred for a full evaluation or for a consultation only in one of the subspecialty clinics within Gastroenterology (Colorectal Neoplasia, Esophagus, Comprehensive GI, Hepatobiliary, Inflammatory Bowel Disease, Motility Disorders or Pancreas). Current clinical, laboratory data (including slides), and radiograms should always be available at the time of the evaluation.

Individual Gastroenterology physician
As needed through Gastroenterology appointment office: 507-284-2141, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Central time, Monday to Friday.

Referring Physicians Service
800-533-1564 (toll-free), appointment secretaries will call the referring physician (or physician's office) back between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Central time. Answering service will record the information 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.

Inpatients — Gastroenterology Appointment Office
507-284-2141, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Central time, Monday to Friday. Direct line to Gastroenterology appointment secretaries who will connect the referring physician with the gastroenterologist on-call to arrange the hospital transfer.

Mayo Clinic operator
507-284-2511. During working hours, the operator can contact the gastroenterologist on-call or any other specialty that the referring physician needs. In emergency situations during off-hours, the clinic operator will assist in dealing with the situation.

Urgent/emergency transportation
24 hours day/7 days a week
Call the Mayo Emergency Communications Center at 800-237-6822 to request Gold Cross (ground ambulance), Mayo One (helicopter ambulance), or Mayo MedAir (fixed-wing air ambulance).
