Comprehensive GI Interest Group

Members of the Comprehensive GI Interest Group have broad interests in gastrointestinal diseases and expertise to evaluate and manage challenging diagnostic cases. Areas of interest include the following:

  • Gastrointestinal hemorrhage (subacute or chronic)
  • Iron deficiency anemia
  • Disorders of malabsorption (celiac sprue, Whipple's disease, lymphangiectasia)
  • Peptic ulcer disease and other manifestations of Helicobacter pylori infection
  • Gastric cancer and gastric polyps
  • Radiation enteropathy
  • Radiation colopathy
  • Colonic diverticular disease
  • AIDS-related diarrheal illnesses
  • Eosinophilic gastroenteritis
  • Infectious colitis or infectious enteritis

Patients may be referred to the Comprehensive GI Interest Group with gastrointestinal symptoms that are not clearly related to a particular GI subspecialty interest group. Some of these nonspecific symptoms include the following:

  • Subacute or chronic diarrhea
  • Weight loss of unknown cause
  • Subacute or chronic abdominal pain
  • Nausea and vomiting
