The Division of General Internal Medicine includes both outpatient and inpatient practices. The outpatient practices care for patients who come to the clinic for appointments. Patients are seen in the International Practice, National Practice or Regional Practice based on where they currently reside. The inpatient practice (Hospital Medicine Practice) cares for patients in the hospital.
The clinics in GIM are organized to provide services to patients with specific needs. Within the division are clinics dedicated to Women's Health, Breast Health, and Complementary and Integrative Medicine. There is also a Resident Clinic, which provides continuity care for regional patients.
GIM is made up of these clinics and practices:
Breast Diagnostic and Breast Cancer Clinics — care for women with breast symptoms or breast cancer.
Complementary and Integrative Medicine Clinic — care for patients interested in integrating complementary and conventional medicine.
Hospital Medicine Practice — inpatient care for patients from around the country and the world.
International Medicine Practice — outpatient care for patients from outside of the United States.
National Medicine Practice — outpatient care for patients within the United States but who live outside of Olmsted County in southern Minnesota, northeastern Iowa and western Wisconsin.
Regional Medicine Practice — outpatient care for patients outside of Olmsted County who live in southern Minnesota, northeastern Iowa and western Wisconsin. Patients who reside within Olmsted County are seen in either Family Medicine or Primary Care Internal Medicine.
Resident Continuity Clinic — GIM fellows and internal medicine resident physicians provide care for local and regional patients seeking primary or ongoing continuity care.
Women's Health Clinic — care for women with menopause, sexual health concerns, or with gender-specific health issues.
