Resources For Physicians

Referring a patient

The Mayo Clinic Referring Physicians Service is the primary contact for physicians making patient appointments and arranging telephone consultations with Mayo staff members. In addition, the Referring Physicians Service will help answer questions and work to resolve any concerns about Mayo services. Call (800) 533-1564, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. See the Referring Physician's Web page.

Inpatient/Emergency Transfers

For patients requiring hospitalization, please call the triage nursing staff at (507) 255-5591 prior to sending the patient to Saint Marys Hospital Emergency Room.

Continuity of Care

Communication with the patient's referring provider is critical to a positive patient experience. A summary of medical recommendations will be forwarded to the referring physician, with the patient's approval. In addition, the patient will be encouraged to discuss treatment recommendations directly with the referring physician as part of her ongoing care.
