The International Medicine Practice serves patients who come from outside of the United States seeking medical care at Mayo Clinic. Internal medicine physicians are experienced in providing for the special needs of international patients. Physicians seamlessly coordinate comprehensive, consultative care for these patients at Mayo Clinic.
Mayo Clinic tailors its services to help make international patients as comfortable as possible. These services include interpreters in more than 30 languages who help facilitate appointments, an International Services Center with patient representatives available to assist patients throughout their visit, and translated written materials to help explain many medical conditions.
Most patients who travel to Mayo Clinic from other countries will start their visit by seeing a physician in the International Medicine Practice who will conduct a thorough medical history and physical examination in addition to reviewing any medical records that accompany the patient. This physician will then work with the patient to develop a plan of care for diagnostic evaluation, subspecialty consultations as necessary, and treatment recommendations. At the conclusion of the Mayo Clinic visit, this physician will review and summarize the results with the patient and send written correspondence to the patient's home physician, if necessary.
Patients from outside the United States should contact the International Appointment Office at 507-284-8884 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Central time, Monday through Friday, or request an appointment using our online form.
