General Internal Medicine in Minnesota

Hospital Medicine Practice

Hospital Medicine Practice

Members of the Hospital Medicine practice provide care for patients who are hospitalized at Saint Marys Hospital or Rochester Methodist Hospital. The practice includes 50 physicians, 14 nurse practitioners and physician assistants, and several clinical assistants who aid in coordinating patient care.

Some physicians maintain an outpatient practice while others concentrate their clinical time within the hospital practice. All physicians are board certified in Internal Medicine. In addition to patient care, these physicians teach and do research in many areas, including perioperative (from hospitalization for surgery to discharge) medicine, geriatrics and palliative (end-of-life) care, and patient safety. Often, these physicians supervise and teach residents and medical students during their hospital rotations, using a team approach to patient care.

Services offered by the Hospital Medicine Practice

  • Comprehensive management of medical needs of hospitalized patients
  • Preoperative evaluation of medical risks prior to surgery
  • Consultative management of patients from other specialty hospital services (for example, surgical services, neurology, and psychiatry)

Inpatient/Emergent Transfers
For patients requiring hospitalization, physicians or providers can call the triage nursing staff at 507-255-5591 prior to sending the patient to Saint Marys Hospital Emergency Room.
