General Internal Medicine in Minnesota

Breast Diagnostic and Breast Cancer Clinics

Breast Diagnostic Clinic

The Breast Diagnostic Clinic and Breast Cancer Clinic are integrated practices, drawing on the expertise of many providers who specialize in the care of women with various breast conditions. Specialists who staff these clinics include breast surgeons, medical oncologists, medical geneticists, plastic surgeons, radiation oncologists, radiologists, as well as internists, family practitioners, psychologists, nurse practitioners, physician assistants and clinical nurse specialists. The patient's principal physician, an internal medicine breast specialist, collaborates with this team to develop a comprehensive plan to address the patient's breast concerns. The dedicated team also includes the patient's local physician to aid in follow-up care. The Breast Diagnostic and Breast Cancer Clinic staffs participate in innovative, high-quality patient care, breast research, and patient and medical education.

The Breast Diagnostic Clinic provides diagnosis, imaging and treatment to women with conditions that include abnormal mammograms, breast lumps, breast pain, fibrocystic breasts, breast cancer, and more (see a complete list of diseases and treatments).

Women with a new diagnosis of breast cancer confirmed by biopsy or women who have a history of breast cancer with new concerns are seen in the Breast Cancer Clinic. Breast Cancer Clinic physicians provide counseling on breast-conserving therapy versus mastectomy, sentinel lymph node biopsy, and other management options for breast cancer. This clinic coordinates patient care with specialists in surgery, radiation oncology, plastic surgery, and genetics, depending upon the patient's needs.
