Risks
Risk factors for gastric cancer include:
- Age 50 or older
- A diet high in foods preserved by smoking, salting or pickling
- Alcohol and tobacco use
- A family history of stomach cancer
- Obesity
- Prior partial gastrectomy for peptic ulcer disease
- Atrophic gastritis (pernicious anemia)
- H. pylori infection
- Immigration from a country with a high rate of gastric cancer (e.g., Japan, Chile)
