Family Medicine Residency Program

Since its earliest days, medical education has been an integral part of Mayo Clinic. Family Medicine residency training occurs at all three Mayo Clinic locations: Rochester, Minnesota; Scottsdale, Arizona; and Jacksonville, Florida. Our senior physician staff each hold faculty appointments at the Mayo Medical School.

A residency program allows physicians to apply their learning in the patient setting while gaining additional experience and training. Family medicine residents are part of the provider team at Mayo Clinic Family Medicine – Thunderbird, and serve as personal care physicians, working collaboratively with our senior physician staff.

Services:

• Preventive care, health screening and physical exams for individuals of all ages
• Obstetrics, including prenatal care, delivery and postpartum care
• Newborn and well-child care
• Routine care for women including Pap smears, pelvic and breast exams
• Treatment of complex and long-term medical conditions including diabetes and high blood pressure
• Acute care for short-term illness
• Treatment of minor injuries such as lacerations, as well as casting and splinting sprains and broken bones
• Lab services
• X-ray, Mammography, Bone Densitometry
• Flu shots and immunizations
• Physical exams for sports, school and summer camp
• Special procedures such as flexible sigmoidoscopy, colposcopy, minor surgery (including vasectomy and circumcision) and exercise treadmill testing
• Optometry
• Psychology consultation
