Mayo Clinic Family Medicine physicians provide family oriented comprehensive care to all ages, including obstetrical care and well woman care, newborn and well child care, pediatrics and adult/geriatric care. Your family physician will assume responsibility for the total health care needs of the individual and family, taking into account medical, social, behavioral, economic, cultural and spiritual dimensions. Family physicians are experts in elements of family oriented care such as family structure and dynamics, family development, family planning, child rearing and education, aging, end of life issues, the role of family in illness care, family counseling and education, nutrition and preventive care.
For women in their childbearing years, the family physician's role is especially important. Mayo family physicians can provide continuous, comprehensive care and medical advice during preconception planning. Your physician cares for you during your pregnancy, delivers your baby, and then provides medical care and health consultation for both mother and infant thereafter. This long-term relationship is focused on caring for the whole family – mother, father/co-parent, and infant – not just the mother's episode of pregnancy.
Each patient has their own personal care (family) physician, who provides the majority of their health care. All members of a family are encouraged to have one family physician coordinate all their health care. Should the patient wish to be seen sooner than their physician is available, an appointment can be scheduled with another physician.
If our patients require specialty care, our physician colleagues at Mayo Clinic are available with an array of 66 medical and surgical specialties, as well as comprehensive laboratory testing and imaging (radiology) procedures. Our electronic medical record system, shared by the clinic in Scottsdale, primary care sites and Mayo Clinic Hospital, allows us to instantly share your care needs with colleagues on our Mayo campuses, speeding the process of consultation should that be necessary.
Your entire family can receive primary care from a Mayo Clinic physician at one of three Mayo Clinic Family Medicine facilities: Arrowhead (Glendale), Fountain Hills or Thunderbird (Scottsdale).
