Familial Cancer Program

Treatment of Children

Mayo Clinic in Minnesota offers all services for pediatric familial cancer patients described in these pages. Mayo's highly trained and experienced physicians are at the forefront of new treatments for children with familial cancers. Specialists will determine a child's risk of developing cancer and recommend a personalized course of preventive action or treatment. Children may benefit from participation in Mayo's familial cancer program if:

  • A parent or one or more siblings have cancer
  • A parent and two second-degree relatives have cancer

Mayo physicians will also provide prenatal counseling for parents whose offspring may be at risk for familial cancer.

Treatment team

Children who participate in Mayo Clinic's familial cancer program are treated by specialists in genetic counseling and physicians with expertise in hereditary cancer syndromes, who work together with pediatricians to determine the most appropriate treatment plan for each patient.
