Mayo Clinic Hospital is a 244-bed, multispecialty acute care facility. The Summer Nurse Extern Program provides clinical experiences in the following areas:
Provides emergent care to patients of all ages, groups and socioeconomic backgrounds with a focus on medical, surgical, cardiac, stroke and transplant populations.
Twenty-bed ICU/10-bed Intermediate Care Unit specialized units for medical and surgical patients who require intensive care including a variety of medical and surgical diagnoses, cardiac surgery, and heart, liver, pancreas, and renal transplant.
Twenty-four-bed medical surgical/12-bed Intermediate Care Unit serving medical and surgical patient population with a focus on solid organ transplant. Intermediate care is a multispecialty unit with patients who require more monitoring than is available on the medical/surgical floors but do not require care in the ICU.
Thirty-three medical/surgical beds and seven rehabilitation beds, specializing in the acute medical and post-operative care of patients with orthopedic and urologic surgery, and in the acute rehabilitative phase of recovery.
Thirty-six-bed unit serves the medical/surgical population with an additional focus on Colorectal Surgery, Gynecological Surgery and Palliative Care. Comprehensive, integrated, interdisciplinary care is provided for geriatric, adult and occasionally adolescent patients.
Thirty-bed medical/surgical unit, specializing in the care of hematology/oncology/bone marrow transplant patients.
Thirty-six-bed cardiovascular/telemetry unit, specializing in the care of patients with medical and surgical cardiac diagnoses, including heart transplant and patients with ventricular assist devices.
Thirty-six-bed general medical/surgical unit specializing in neurosurgery, neurology and ENT diagnoses.
Telemetry is available to every patient on every acute care unit of Mayo Clinic Hospital.
Mayo Clinic Hospital utilizes bedside computers to access the electronic medical record for all nursing documentation.
