Student Nurse Extern Program
Applications

Eligibility and qualifications

To participate in the Student Nurse Extern Program, you must:

  • Be currently enrolled in an accredited school of nursing
  • Be completing your junior year of a baccalaureate program in nursing and have completed two semesters of clinical nursing experience, or be completing your third semester (block 3) of an associate program in nursing and have completed three semesters of clinical nursing experience
  • Be available for a full 10-week assignment that begins in May and ends in August
  • Have a favorable recommendation from one of your clinical faculty members
  • Meet Mayo Clinic job-related health requirements
  • Have a satisfactory academic record
  • Be current in basic life support from the American Red Cross or American Heart Association (must have completed either within the last year)

How to apply

For the Student Nurse Extern Program taking place in the summer of 2012, you will be able to apply online between Feb. 10 and Feb. 12, 2012. During this application window, visit the Internships and Summer Opportunities Web page, locate the job posting, and complete the online application.

Before applying, obtain an up-to-date transcript from your registrar's office, as you will need to attach it as a PDF to your online application.

You must also have a faculty member from your nursing school complete the Faculty Clinical Reference online form. Upon completion, he or she should submit it directly to Mayo Clinic using the green "submit via email" button at the end. If the button doesn't work, save a copy of the completed form and email it to slatton.pat@mayo.edu. This form must be received no later than Feb. 12, 2012.
