Executive Health Program

Aerospace Medical Assessments for Civilian Spaceflight

The inherent physiologic stresses of space flight, and the limited capability for medical care onboard, require a standardized system for medical assessments of prospective passengers who want to engage in civilian space tourism. Specially trained physicians in Arizona have professional expertise and experience as well as an expedited service model through the existing Executive Health program, to provide these pre-flight medical assessments.

Our goal is to provide a comprehensive, individualized, protocol-driven aerospace medical assessment to determine the medical risks and risk mitigation strategies for individuals to fly into space. Mayo Clinic's integrated group practice model and double board-certified specialists in Internal Medicine and Aerospace Medicine will complete a thorough assessment within two to three days.

Mayo Clinic has a long history with aerospace medicine, having pioneered new high-altitude oxygen equipment and systems to prevent blackout during high G-forces for high-performance aircraft during World War II. Research and development of new technology and tools to combat the dangers of the challenging environment of flight continues at Mayo Clinic in Arizona.
