Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

More common

  1. Difficulty with speaking or swallowing
  2. lip smacking or puckering
  3. loss of balance control
  4. mask-like face
  5. puffing of the cheeks
  6. rapid or fine, worm-like movements of the tongue
  7. restlessness or desire to keep moving
  8. shuffling walk
  9. slowed movements
  10. stiffness of the arms and legs
  11. trembling and shaking of the fingers and hands
  12. uncontrolled chewing movements
  13. uncontrolled movements of the arms or legs

Less common

  1. Constipation (severe)
  2. difficult urination
  3. inability to move the eyes
  4. muscle spasms, especially of the neck and back
  5. skin rash
  6. twisting movements of the body

Rare

  1. Difficult or fast breathing
  2. fast heartbeat or irregular pulse
  3. fever (high)
  4. high or low blood pressure
  5. increased blinking or spasms of the eyelid
  6. increased sweating
  7. loss of bladder control
  8. muscle stiffness (severe)
  9. seizures
  10. sore throat and fever
  11. uncontrolled twisting movements of the neck, trunk, arms, or legs
  12. unusual bleeding or bruising
  13. unusual facial expressions or body positions
  14. unusual tiredness or weakness
  15. unusually pale skin
  16. yellow eyes or skin

Get emergency help immediately if any of the following symptoms of overdose occur:

Symptoms of overdose

  1. Dizziness, faintness, or lightheadedness when suddenly getting up from a lying or sitting position
  2. drowsiness (severe)
  3. irregular, fast or slow, or shallow breathing
  4. loss of consciousness
  5. muscle trembling, jerking, stiffness, or uncontrolled movements (severe)
  6. pale or blue lips, fingernails, or skin
  7. troubled breathing (severe)
  8. unusual tiredness or weakness (severe)

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:

More common

  1. Blurred vision
  2. confusion
  3. dizziness, lightheadedness, or fainting
  4. drowsiness
  5. dryness of the mouth

Less common

  1. Constipation (mild)
  2. decreased sexual ability
  3. enlargement of the breasts (males and females)
  4. headache
  5. increased sensitivity of the skin to sunlight
  6. missing menstrual periods
  7. nausea or vomiting
  8. trouble with sleeping
  9. unusual secretion of milk
  10. weight gain
