Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor or nurse immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

More common

  1. Back, leg, or stomach pains
  2. bleeding gums
  3. chills
  4. dark urine
  5. difficulty with breathing
  6. fever
  7. general body swelling
  8. headache
  9. loss of appetite
  10. nausea or vomiting
  11. nosebleeds
  12. pale skin
  13. sore throat
  14. unusual tiredness or weakness
  15. yellowing of the eyes or skin

Less common

  1. Black, tarry stools
  2. blood in the urine or stools
  3. bluish color
  4. changes in skin color
  5. chest pain, discomfort, or tightness
  6. confusion
  7. cough
  8. decreased frequency or amount of urine
  9. diarrhea
  10. difficulty with swallowing
  11. dizziness
  12. dry mouth
  13. fast, irregular, pounding, or racing heartbeat or pulse
  14. general tiredness and weakness
  15. increased blood pressure
  16. increased thirst
  17. light-colored stools
  18. lightheadedness, dizziness, or fainting
  19. lower back or side pain
  20. mood changes
  21. muscle pain or cramps
  22. nervousness
  23. numbness or tingling in the hands, feet, or lips
  24. painful or difficult urination
  25. pinpoint red spots on the skin
  26. puffiness or swelling of the eyelids or around the eyes, face, lips, or tongue
  27. seizures
  28. skin itching, rash, redness, or hives
  29. slow or irregular heartbeat
  30. sores, ulcers, or white spots on the lips or in the mouth
  31. stomach cramps, pain, or tenderness
  32. swelling of the face, throat, fingers, or lower legs
  33. swollen glands
  34. trouble breathing
  35. unusual bleeding or bruising
  36. watery and severe diarrhea, which may also be bloody
  37. weakness or heaviness of the legs
  38. weight gain

Incidence not known

  1. Agitation
  2. back pain
  3. blurred vision
  4. coma
  5. hallucinations
  6. irritability
  7. mood or mental changes
  8. shaking or jerking of one area or side of the body
  9. stiff neck

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:

Less common

  1. Difficulty having a bowel movement (stool)
  2. flushed, dry skin fruit-like breath odor
  3. increased hunger
  4. increased urination
  5. sweating
  6. unexplained weight loss
  7. welts
