Services for Patients

Research and Education

Mayo's international activities extend to research and education. Collaborative international research projects are under way that involve Mayo Clinic physicians and scientists and their colleagues in several other countries. Many projects are yielding promising advances that could greatly improve patient care all over the world. As in patient care, Mayo Clinic research has a primary focus of improving the lives of patients. Learn more about Mayo Clinic's research programs.

Education programs for students and medical professionals include many international participants every year. Nearly 2,900 physicians from outside the United States have trained at Mayo Clinic and currently practice medicine in more than 72 countries around the world. These Mayo-trained doctors carry Mayo Clinic expertise and patient-focused care to hundreds of communities on all continents. In addition, fourth-year students at Mayo Medical School have the opportunity to travel and provide care for underserved populations outside of the United States. The Visiting Clinician program is designed to offer physicians an opportunity to obtain further experience in their professional specialty. Learn more about the Visiting Clinician program.
