Endocrinology in Minnesota

Overview

Endocrinology, Metabolism, Diabetes, Nutrition, and Internal Medicine is a Division of the Department of Internal Medicine at Mayo Clinic. It has a staff of more than 40 clinical endocrinologists, organized into a number of specialty groups.

Staff in the division handle a wide range of common as well as unusual disorders and dysfunctions. Patients with problems involving the hormone-secreting endocrine glands present a wide array of symptoms, signs, syndromes, and diseases, many of which are interrelated.

The endocrine system includes the major endocrine glands:

  • Thyroid
  • Pancreas
  • Parathyroid
  • Pineal
  • Hypothalamus
  • Adrenals
  • Adrenals
  • Ovaries
  • Testes
  • Pituitary

The endocrine system also involves many other organs which respond to, modify, or metabolize hormones. Some of these organs include:

  • Kidneys
  • Heart
  • Liver
  • Stomach
  • Hypothalamus
  • Brain
  • Bone
  • Skin
  • Placenta

A unique aspect of the division is its integrated approach to problems of human nutrition in disease states and for health improvement and maintenance.
