Dystonia

Treatment

Patients with dystonia are evaluated and treated through Mayo Clinic's Movement Disorders Program, staffed by specialists from Mayo Clinic's Neurology and Neurosurgery departments.

Treatment varies depending on the type of dystonia, and must be tailored for each individual because patients respond differently to the medications.

Mayo Clinic offers various treatments for dystonia, including:

  • Medications
  • Botulinum toxin injections
  • Surgery
  • Physical therapy
  • Stress management
  • Biofeedback

Deep brain stimulation has also shown exciting potential for severe cases.

See movement disorders for additional information on treatments.
