Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

More common

  1. Black, tarry stools
  2. blistering, peeling, loosening of the skin
  3. chest pain
  4. chills
  5. cough
  6. diarrhea
  7. difficulty seeing at night
  8. fever
  9. increased sensitivity of the eyes to sunlight
  10. itching, rash
  11. joint or muscle pain
  12. painful or difficult urination
  13. red irritated eyes
  14. red skin lesions, often with a purple center
  15. sore throat
  16. sores, ulcers, or white spots on the lips or in the mouth
  17. swollen glands
  18. trouble breathing
  19. unusual bleeding or bruising
  20. unusual tiredness or weakness
  21. vision changes

Less common

  1. Bloating or swelling of the face, arms, hands, lower legs, or feet
  2. blurred vision
  3. chapped, red, or swollen lips
  4. chills
  5. clay-colored stools
  6. confusion
  7. dark urine
  8. decreased urine
  9. dizziness
  10. dry mouth
  11. faintness or lightheadedness when getting up suddenly from a lying or sitting position
  12. feeling of warmth
  13. increased thirst
  14. irregular or pounding heartbeat
  15. loss of appetite
  16. muscle pain or cramps
  17. muscle spasms or twitching
  18. nausea
  19. nervousness
  20. numbness or tingling in the hands, feet, or lips
  21. pounding in the ears
  22. rapid weight gain
  23. rash with flat lesions or small raised lesions on the skin
  24. redness of the face, neck, arms, and occasionally, the upper chest
  25. scaling, redness, burning, pain, or other signs of inflammation of the lips
  26. seizures
  27. stomach pain
  28. slow or fast heartbeat
  29. sweating
  30. trembling
  31. unpleasant breath odor
  32. vomiting of blood
  33. yellow eyes or skin

Rare

  1. Agitation
  2. blistering, peeling, or loosening of the skin
  3. hostility or anger
  4. increased sensitivity of the skin to sunlight
  5. irritability
  6. redness or other discoloration of the skin
  7. seeing things that are not there
  8. severe sunburn

Incidence not known

  1. Backache
  2. blindness
  3. blue-yellow color blindness
  4. bone pain
  5. darkening of the skin
  6. decreased vision
  7. diarrhea
  8. facial hair growth in females
  9. fainting
  10. fractures
  11. full or round face, neck, or trunk
  12. increased urination
  13. irritability
  14. loss of sexual desire or ability
  15. menstrual irregularities
  16. mental depression
  17. muscle wasting
  18. vomiting

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:
