Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor or nurse immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

More common

  1. Black, tarry stools
  2. blistering, peeling, loosening of the skin
  3. chest pain
  4. chills
  5. cough
  6. diarrhea
  7. difficulty seeing at night
  8. fever
  9. increased sensitivity of the eyes to sunlight
  10. itching, rash
  11. joint or muscle pain
  12. painful or difficult urination
  13. red irritated eyes
  14. red skin lesions, often with a purple center
  15. sore throat
  16. sores, ulcers, or white spots on the lips or in the mouth
  17. swollen glands
  18. trouble breathing
  19. unusual bleeding or bruising
  20. unusual tiredness or weakness
  21. vision changes

Less common

  1. Bloating or swelling of the face, arms, hands, lower legs, or feet
  2. blurred vision
  3. chills
  4. clay-colored stools
  5. confusion
  6. dark urine
  7. decreased urine
  8. dizziness
  9. dry mouth
  10. faintness or lightheadedness when getting up suddenly from a lying or sitting position
  11. feeling of warmth
  12. increased thirst
  13. irregular or pounding heartbeat
  14. loss of appetite
  15. muscle pain or cramps
  16. muscle spasms or twitching
  17. nausea
  18. nervousness
  19. numbness or tingling in the hands, feet, or lips
  20. pounding in the ears
  21. rapid weight gain
  22. rash with flat lesions or small raised lesions on the skin
  23. redness of the face, neck, arms, and occasionally, the upper chest
  24. seizures
  25. slow or fast heartbeat
  26. stomach pain
  27. sweating
  28. trembling
  29. unpleasant breath odor
  30. vomiting of blood
  31. yellow eyes or skin

Rare

  1. Black, bloody, or tarry stools
  2. bleeding gums
  3. blood in the eye
  4. blood in the urine or stools
  5. eye pain
  6. pale skin
  7. pinpoint red spots on the skin
  8. redness in the white part of the eyes
  9. seeing things that are not there

Incidence not known

  1. Backache
  2. blindness
  3. blue-yellow color blindness
  4. bone pain
  5. chapped, red, or swollen lips
  6. darkening of the skin
  7. decreased vision
  8. diarrhea
  9. facial hair growth in females
  10. fainting
  11. fractures
  12. full or round face, neck, or trunk
  13. increased urination
  14. irritability
  15. loss of sexual desire or ability
  16. menstrual irregularities
  17. mental depression
  18. muscle wasting
  19. scaling, redness, burning, pain, or other signs of inflammation of the lips
  20. vomiting

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:

Less common

  1. Headache
  2. pain or swelling at the injection site
