Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor or nurse immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

More common

  1. Abnormal tongue sensation
  2. black, tarry stools
  3. bleeding, blistering, burning, coldness, discoloration of skin, feeling of pressure, hives, infection, inflammation, itching, lumps, numbness, pain, rash, redness, scarring, soreness, stinging, swelling, tenderness, tingling, ulceration, or warmth at the injection site
  4. bleeding gums
  5. blistering, peeling, redness, or swelling of the palms of the hands or bottoms of the feet
  6. blood in the urine or stools
  7. burning, prickling, itching, or tingling of the skin
  8. chest pain
  9. chills
  10. cough
  11. decreased urination
  12. difficulty performing daily activities such as writing, buttoning, swallowing, or walking
  13. difficulty with articulating words
  14. difficulty with breathing
  15. difficulty with moving
  16. difficulty with swallowing
  17. dizziness
  18. dry mouth
  19. eye pain
  20. fainting
  21. fever
  22. increase in heart rate
  23. jaw spasm
  24. lightheadedness
  25. lower back or side pain
  26. muscle pain or stiffness
  27. numbness or painful sensations
  28. pain in the chest, groin, or legs, especially the calves
  29. pain in the joints
  30. painful or difficult urination
  31. pale skin
  32. pinpoint red spots on the skin
  33. rapid breathing
  34. sensation of pins and needles
  35. sore throat
  36. sores, ulcers, or white spots on the lips or in the mouth
  37. stabbing pain
  38. sunken eyes
  39. swelling
  40. swelling or inflammation of the mouth
  41. swollen glands
  42. thirst
  43. trouble breathing with exertion
  44. unsteadiness or awkwardness
  45. unusual bleeding or bruising
  46. unusual tiredness or weakness
  47. vision changes
  48. wrinkled skin

Less common

  1. Chest tightness
  2. fast heartbeat
  3. hives, itching, or skin rash
  4. increased thirst
  5. irregular heartbeat
  6. loss of appetite
  7. mood changes
  8. nausea or vomiting
  9. puffiness or swelling of the eyelids or around the eyes, face, lips, or tongue

Incidence not known

  1. Back, leg, or stomach pains
  2. blindness
  3. bloated stomach
  4. blue-yellow color blindness
  5. blurred vision
  6. changes in patterns and rhythms of speech
  7. dark urine
  8. deafness
  9. decreased vision
  10. deep breathing
  11. drowsiness
  12. electric shock-like sensation that moves down the back and into the legs following a bending movement of the neck
  13. general body swelling
  14. increased urination
  15. irregular heartbeat, recurrent
  16. large, hive-like swelling on the face, eyelids, lips, tongue, throat, hands, legs, feet, or sex organs
  17. loss of deep tendon reflexes
  18. muscle cramps or spasms
  19. muscle tremors
  20. pain and fullness in the right upper abdomen or stomach
  21. restlessness
  22. severe constipation
  23. severe diarrhea
  24. severe nosebleeds
  25. severe stomach cramps or tenderness
  26. severe vomiting
  27. trouble with speaking
  28. twitches of the muscle visible under the skin
  29. weakness of the muscles in your face
  30. weight gain
  31. yellow eyes or skin

Get emergency help immediately if any of the following symptoms of overdose occur:

Symptoms of overdose

  1. Agitation
  2. coma
  3. cough or hoarseness
  4. diarrhea
  5. disorientation
  6. involuntary, rapid, or rhythmic movement of the eyes
  7. lack of coordination
  8. lack of sensation
  9. lethargy
  10. paralysis
  11. respiratory failure
  12. seizures
  13. slow or irregular heartbeat
  14. tremors
  15. vomiting, profuse

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:

More common

  1. Acid or sour stomach
  2. belching
  3. body aches or pain
  4. ear congestion
  5. feeling unusually cold, shivering
  6. headache
  7. heartburn
  8. indigestion
  9. loss of voice
  10. nasal congestion
  11. runny nose
  12. sneezing
  13. stomach discomfort, upset, or pain
  14. trouble sleeping
  15. weight loss

Less common

  1. Bad, unusual, or unpleasant (after) taste
  2. bloated or full feeling
  3. bloody nose
  4. burning while urinating
  5. change in taste
  6. congestion
  7. cracked lips
  8. dryness or soreness of the throat
  9. excess air or gas in stomach or intestines
  10. feeling of warmth
  11. hair loss
  12. passing gas
  13. rapid weight gain
  14. redness of the face, neck, arms, and occasionally upper chest
  15. tender, swollen glands in the neck
  16. thinning of the hair
  17. unusual tearing of the eyes
  18. voice changes
