Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

More common

  1. Feelings of dependence
  2. joint pain
  3. shortness of breath
  4. swelling of the gums, mouth, or tongue
  5. tightness in the chest
  6. tingling in the arms, legs, hands, or feet

Less common

  1. Burning, tingling, or prickly sensations in the nose, mouth, or head
  2. confusion
  3. difficulty with swallowing
  4. dryness or pain in the throat
  5. fast or irregular heartbeat
  6. muscle pain
  7. nasal blister or sore
  8. numbness of the nose or mouth


  1. Blood-containing blisters on the skin
  2. difficulty with speaking
  3. loss of memory
  4. migraine headache
  5. skin rash
  6. swelling of the feet or lower legs
  7. wheezing

Get emergency help immediately if any of the following symptoms of overdose occur:

Symptoms of overdose

  1. Cold sweat
  2. convulsions (seizures)
  3. disturbed hearing and vision
  4. dizziness
  5. drooling
  6. pale skin
  7. slow heartbeat
  8. tremors
  9. unusual tiredness or weakness
  10. vomiting

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:

More common

  1. Back pain
  2. constipation
  3. cough
  4. headache
  5. hot, peppery feeling in the back of the throat or nose
  6. indigestion
  7. nausea
  8. runny nose
  9. sneezing
  10. watery eyes

Less common

  1. Abdominal or stomach pain
  2. acne
  3. change in sense of smell or taste
  4. dryness, burning, itching, or irritation of the eyes
  5. earache
  6. flushing of the face
  7. hoarseness
  8. itching
  9. menstrual problems
  10. nosebleed
  11. passing of gas
  12. sinus problems
  13. soreness of the teeth and gums
  14. stuffy nose


  1. Changes in vision
  2. diarrhea
  3. dryness of the mouth
  4. hiccups
  5. increased amount of sputum
