Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

Less common

  1. Blurred vision
  2. bulging soft spot on the head of an infant
  3. burning, crawling, itching, numbness, prickling, "pins and needles", or tingling feelings
  4. change in the ability to see colors, especially blue or yellow
  5. chest pain or discomfort
  6. chills
  7. confusion
  8. cough
  9. decreased urination
  10. dizziness, faintness, or lightheadedness when getting up suddenly from a lying or sitting position
  11. fainting
  12. fast, pounding, or irregular heartbeat or pulse
  13. headache
  14. hives, itching, or skin rash
  15. increased sweating
  16. loss of appetite
  17. nausea
  18. nervousness
  19. pounding in the ears
  20. puffiness or swelling of the eyelids or around the eyes, face, lips, or tongue
  21. severe constipation
  22. severe vomiting
  23. shakiness in the legs, arms, hands, or feet
  24. slow heartbeat
  25. stomach pain
  26. sweating
  27. vomiting

Incidence not known

  1. Agitation
  2. black, tarry stools
  3. chest tightness
  4. cold, clammy skin
  5. darkening of the skin
  6. diarrhea
  7. difficulty swallowing
  8. feeling of warmth or heat
  9. fever
  10. flushing or redness of the skin, especially on the face and neck
  11. increased sensitivity to pain
  12. irregular, fast or slow, or shallow breathing
  13. lightheadedness
  14. loss of consciousness
  15. low blood pressure or pulse
  16. mental depression
  17. overactive reflexes
  18. painful urination
  19. pale or blue lips, fingernails, or skin
  20. pale skin
  21. pinpoint red spots on the skin
  22. poor coordination
  23. pounding in the ears
  24. puffiness or swelling of the eyelids or around the eyes, face, lips, or tongue
  25. restlessness
  26. shakiness and unsteady walk
  27. shivering
  28. talking or acting with excitement you cannot control
  29. twitching
  30. unsteadiness, trembling, or other problems with muscle control or coordination
  31. unusual bleeding or bruising
  32. unusual tiredness or weakness
  33. very slow heartbeat
  34. worsening of pain

Get emergency help immediately if any of the following symptoms of overdose occur:

Symptoms of overdose

  1. Constricted, pinpoint, or small pupils (black part of the eye)
  2. decreased awareness or responsiveness
  3. extreme drowsiness
  4. fever
  5. increased blood pressure
  6. increased thirst
  7. lower back or side pain
  8. muscle cramps, spasms, pain, or stiffness
  9. no muscle tone or movement
  10. severe sleepiness
  11. swelling of the face, fingers, or lower legs
  12. weight gain

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:

More common

  1. Cramps
  2. difficulty having a bowel movement
  3. drowsiness
  4. false or unusual sense of well-being
  5. relaxed and calm feeling
  6. sleepiness or unusual drowsiness
  7. weight loss

Less common

  1. Absent, missed, or irregular menstrual periods
  2. bad, unusual, or unpleasant (after) taste
  3. change in vision
  4. dry mouth
  5. floating feeling
  6. halos around lights
  7. heartburn or indigestion
  8. loss in sexual ability, desire, drive, or performance
  9. muscle stiffness or tightness
  10. night blindness
  11. overbright appearance of lights
  12. problems with muscle control
  13. stomach discomfort or upset
  14. trouble sleeping
  15. uncontrolled eye movements

Incidence not known

  1. Abnormal dreams
  2. change in walking and balance
  3. change or problem with discharge of semen
  4. clumsiness or unsteadiness
  5. confusion as to time, place, or person
  6. false beliefs that cannot be changed by facts
  7. feeling of constant movement of self or surroundings
  8. general feeling of discomfort or illness
  9. holding false beliefs that cannot be changed by fact
  10. poor insight and judgment
  11. problems with memory or speech
  12. seeing, hearing, or feeling things that are not there
  13. sensation of spinning
  14. trouble recognizing objects
  15. trouble thinking and planning
  16. trouble walking
  17. unusual excitement, nervousness, or restlessness

Other side effects not listed may also occur in some patients. If you notice any other effects, check with your healthcare professional.
