Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

More common

  1. Burning, stinging, or discomfort when medicine is applied
  2. itching, redness, swelling, or other sign of the eye or eyelid irritation

Less common

  1. Burning, dry, or itching eyes
  2. discharge from the eye
  3. excessive tearing
  4. redness, pain, or swelling of the eye, eyelid, or inner lining of the eyelid

Rare

  1. Blood in the urine
  2. blurred vision
  3. nausea or vomiting
  4. pain in the side, back, or abdomen
  5. skin rash
  6. tearing

Incidence not known

  1. Blistering, burning, crusting, dryness, or flaking of the skin
  2. change in vision
  3. chills
  4. cough
  5. diarrhea
  6. difficult or labored breathing
  7. flashes of light
  8. floaters in vision
  9. hives or welts
  10. itching skin
  11. joint or muscle pain
  12. large, hive-like swelling on the face, eyelids, lips, tongue, throat, hands, legs, feet, or sex organs
  13. noisy breathing
  14. redness of the skin
  15. sore throat
  16. sores, ulcers, or white spots in the mouth or on the lips
  17. tightness in the chest
  18. unusual tiredness or weakness

Get emergency help immediately if any of the following symptoms of overdose occur:

Symptoms of overdose

  1. Confusion
  2. irregular heartbeat
  3. muscle cramps or pain
  4. numbness, tingling, pain, or weakness in the hands or feet
  5. seizures
  6. trembling
  7. weakness and heaviness of the legs

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:

More common

  1. Bitter taste
  2. feeling of something in the eye

Less common

  1. Changes in color vision
  2. difficulty seeing at night
  3. dryness of the eyes
  4. eyelid reactions
  5. headache
  6. increased sensitivity of the eyes to sunlight

Incidence not known

  1. Bloody nose
  2. burning, crawling, itching, numbness, prickling, "pins and needles", or tingling feelings
  3. change in distance vision
  4. difficulty in focusing the eyes
  5. dizziness
  6. dry mouth
  7. eyelid crusting
  8. lack or loss of strength
  9. scaling of the skin
  10. severe redness, soreness, or swelling of the skin
