Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

More common

  1. Black, tarry stools
  2. chest pain
  3. chills
  4. cough
  5. fever
  6. painful or difficult urination
  7. shortness of breath
  8. sore throat
  9. sores, ulcers, or white spots on lips or in mouth
  10. swollen glands
  11. unusual bleeding or bruising
  12. unusual tiredness or weakness

Less common

  1. Abdominal or stomach cramps
  2. abdominal or stomach tenderness or pain
  3. bloating
  4. bluish color or changes in skin color
  5. diarrhea, watery and severe, which may also be bloody
  6. difficulty in breathing or swallowing, wheezing, shortness of breath
  7. fast heartbeat
  8. fever
  9. hives or welts
  10. increased thirst
  11. muscle spasm or jerking of all extremities
  12. nausea or vomiting
  13. pain
  14. skin itching, rash, or redness
  15. sudden loss of consciousness
  16. swelling of face, throat, or tongue
  17. swelling of foot or leg
  18. tenderness
  19. unusual weight loss

Rare

  1. Blistering, peeling, loosening of skin
  2. bloody or cloudy urine
  3. dizziness
  4. fast heartbeat
  5. greatly decreased frequency of urination or amount of urine
  6. hearing loss, mild to moderate
  7. joint or muscle pain
  8. puffiness or swelling of the eyelids or around the eyes, face, lips or tongue
  9. red or irritated eyes
  10. redness, tenderness, itching, burning, or peeling of skin
  11. red skin lesions, often with a purple center
  12. sore throat
  13. tightness in chest

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:

More common

  1. Gas
  2. loss of appetite
