Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

More common

  1. Body aches or pain
  2. chest tightness
  3. chills
  4. cough
  5. difficulty with breathing
  6. ear congestion
  7. fever
  8. headache
  9. loss of voice
  10. muscle aches
  11. pain or tenderness around the eyes and cheekbones
  12. sneezing
  13. sore throat
  14. stuffy or runny nose
  15. unusual tiredness or weakness

Less common

  1. Bladder pain
  2. bloody or cloudy urine
  3. congestion
  4. cough producing mucus
  5. diarrhea
  6. difficult, burning, or painful urination
  7. dryness of the throat
  8. fast, irregular, pounding, or racing heartbeat or pulse
  9. frequent urge to urinate
  10. general feeling of discomfort or illness
  11. hoarseness
  12. joint pain
  13. loss of appetite
  14. lower back or side pain
  15. nausea
  16. noisy breathing
  17. shakiness in the legs, arms, hands, or feet
  18. shivering
  19. sore mouth or tongue
  20. stomach pain
  21. sweating
  22. tender, swollen glands in the neck
  23. trembling or shaking of the hands or feet
  24. trouble with sleeping
  25. trouble with swallowing
  26. voice changes
  27. vomiting
  28. white patches in the mouth or on the tongue

Rare

  1. Blurred vision
  2. confusion
  3. decreased urine
  4. dizziness or lightheadedness when getting up suddenly from a lying or sitting position
  5. dry mouth
  6. enlarged pupils
  7. fainting
  8. flushed, dry skin
  9. fruit-like breath odor
  10. increased hunger
  11. increased sensitivity of the eyes to light
  12. increased sweating, possibly with fever or cold, clammy skin
  13. increased thirst
  14. increased urination
  15. large, hive-like swelling on the face, eyelids, lips, tongue, throat, hands, legs, feet, or sex organs
  16. muscle cramps
  17. nervousness
  18. numbness or tingling in the hands, feet, or lips
  19. pounding in the ears
  20. seizures
  21. severe chest pain
  22. severe headache
  23. slow, fast, pounding, or irregular heartbeat or pulse
  24. stiff or sore neck
  25. unexplained weight loss

Incidence not known

  1. Blindness
  2. decreased vision
  3. eye pain
  4. puffiness or swelling of the eyelids or around the eyes, face, lips, or tongue
  5. tearing

Get emergency help immediately if any of the following symptoms of overdose occur:

Symptoms of overdose

  1. Arm, back, or jaw pain
  2. chest pain or discomfort
  3. darkening of the skin
  4. drowsiness
  5. mental depression
  6. rapid, deep breathing
  7. restlessness
  8. skin rash
  9. stomach cramps

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:

More common

  1. Stomach discomfort

Less common

  1. Belching
  2. difficulty with moving
  3. heartburn
  4. indigestion
  5. muscle spasms or stiffness
  6. pain in the arms or legs
  7. stomach upset
  8. swollen joints

Rare

  1. Bad, unusual, or unpleasant (after) taste
  2. change in taste
  3. deep or fast breathing with dizziness
  4. fear
  5. hives or welts, itching skin
  6. irritability
  7. large, flat, blue, or purplish patches in the skin
  8. numbness in the feet, hands, and around the mouth
  9. redness of the skin
